ConsultEcon Management & Economic Insight

ConsultEcon staff have broadly based experience in evaluating market, economic and financial aspects of economic development projects. These include area-wide strategies, district plans, and site master plans, as well as individual development projects and redevelopment and reuse plans.  We often work in multidisciplinary teams that might include planners, architects, landscape architects, engineers, and/or public outreach specialists.

Conference/Convention Centers

Glens Falls Civic Center:   Glens Falls, New York
Evaluated the ongoing impacts of operations.  This arena and meetings facility offers professional and amateur sports, music concerts, traveling shows, consumer shows and a variety of meetings.  Issues include operating impacts and event attendee and performer off-site spending.

Art Exhibition Centre:   Hong Kong, SAR, China
This Centre was envisioned as dedicated to working with arts organizations around the world to become the Asian focal point for international art fairs and expositions of contemporary and traditional art in all media.  We prepared a market study and operating plan for this centre as part of large, mixed-use visual and performing arts complex in West Kowloon that also considered shared operational resources within the complex.  We also prepared a phased pre-opening operating plan and budget.

Civic Center Feasibility:   Jamestown, New York
Prepared a preliminary report of market and project concept issues relating to the potential development of a mixed use civic center project.  Project components included arena, meeting and assembly space, hotel and restaurant, with associated parking.

Conference Center/Hotel Feasibility:  Austin, Texas
Analyzed the market potential for development of a hotel/conference center to be located in a former student dormitory building.  Also outlined the hotel/conference center concept, reviewed the hotel and meetings market and the local and regional competitive context, described the market potential for those uses, and evaluated the financial implications of a phased conversion.

Iowa Destination State Parks:
Various locations, Iowa
Evaluated economic potential of destination state parks in two locations in Iowa.  Uses included hotel/conference center, RV park, restaurant and visitor amenities.  The development model is public/private partnerships between the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and private-sector owner/operators.
